Rudraksha Yoga wishes a very happy Maha Shivarathri to you!

Jagatah pitarau vande Parvathi Parameshwarau |

We pray the parents of the world, Mother Parvathi and Lord Shiva for their Grace.

According to Hindu calendar, today is the Great Night of Lord Shiva, i.e. Maha Shivarathri. This is the day in which  Lord Shiva appeared as an infinite bright light column(jyothirlinga form) in the midnight for the welfare of the universe.  His appearance signifies his power and formless nature.

We heard: light column, bright, power, midnight etc.What is the symbolism here?

Midnight implies darkness. This is our ignorance, i.e. our feeling of “I am separate from Lord Shiva, the Ultimate Reality“.  Infinite light column is the light of knowledge. What is knowledge? It is the understanding of -”We are nothing but Lord Shiva, but encaged in a physical body”.  The intense brightness is nothing but Shridevi Parvathi, the power(shakti) of Lord Shiva. Remember, Lord Shiva’s power is Shridevi Parvathi.

Bright light column also symbolizes the flow of awakened Mother Kundalini in the channel sushumnaIn other words, the column is sushumna and bright light is Mother Kundalini flowing through it during Kundalini Yoga.

It is a great day today – full of spiritual energy all over. Feel and enjoy it!

Let us meditate on Lord Shiva and Mother Shridevi for their Grace. Let us chant their holy mantra:

Om Namah Shivaya ||

I salute the Ultimate Reality, Lord Shiva(and Mother Shridevi)!
